Need feedback on my sign up process

Hiya everyone ... need some feedback here.

We built http://pagepilot.io out of a need we had AuthorityLabs (https://authoritylabs.com). Basically we wanted support docs embedded in the app, and relevant to the page you're on. Then we wanted to create tooltips and onboarding guides without any dev involvement (think AppCues). So now you can do all this all by installing a little javascript. And, since you have to install the js anyways, we thought we would maybe make you do that first, so basically to sign up and get on board you ...

  1. Install the javascript
  2. Navigate to yoururl.com/?launchpagepilot
  3. Signup
  4. Add your first tooltip or doc

And then you're off!

My question is ... are we asking too much of people to install the js first? There isn't much that makes much sense without being on the page you're building support things for so we figured we would make people install it first. See some vids on > http://pagepilot.io/install

It seems to be hard to get people to install a little bit of js, but maybe it's not that. Maybe we're not communicating the value clearly enough?

Anyways, looking for some other angles on this. Would sincerely appreciate your thoughts :)

Hey, you can try the design feedback service: https://www.basil.chat/
They can help to get feedback on the design

    Sup OP, Sandorie here.

The first time a user visits your page, they are looking for a magic moment ( the moment when they realize this is what they have been looking for) As soon as they get in front of such moment, anything else won't likely matter to them.

I checked your page and it seemed straight forward enough. It could be as you said that you are not communicating enough ( In my opinion you are doing it just fine), it could be that your customers are not finding their "A-ha moment" soon enough or that they are not sure how this js will help them?

Usually first time interaction have a lower threshold regarding pass/fail. I would look at the website metrics and check the retention and time spent on the page ( or on specific sections of the website) and iterate from there.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers!

Thanks @sandorie yeah the only thing with the homepage I don't like is that it's not obvious you can scroll for more info. I think we need to fix that.

Could you make more info available without making the users scroll down for more ?

Maybe this could work. That way they immediately see what they are looking for ( info + product)

Yeah I think that's what we're going to be doing.

This is very detailed @thomasm1964 ... sincerely appreciate it.

Some great points for sure. It's interesting that you considered "Onboard" jargon. I hadn't even considered that and I typically like to stay away from jargon as well at least until you're sure your target audience understands what you're talking about.

We will definitely take your corrections and feedback here and make some changes.
