Ask IH: Settings as a service idea, thoughts?

Everytime I work on a project, it's a pain to store different settings for different environments, local, dev, stage, production. Every developer has their own settings, every environment has its own settings and ocassionally someone accidently commits the .env files to the repo with secrets... it's just a mess..

what if there is a SAAS that handles all that, you simply add a "gem" or "package" to your app and you get/set enviroment variables/settings and they all come from the cloud.

Will need to handle offline mode somehow (maybe cache or have fallback defaults, etc...)

Is that something that would work? Would you use it? If you end up "stealing" this idea, let me know if it worked and good luck.

EDIT: another big benefit is that you can make changes to your settings without re-deploying the app.
