Introducing my first SaaS which helps people building coming soon page for early feedbacks

Hi :)
I launched my first SaaS Cominsoon in December last year and added more features after posted on Producthunt.

The idea comes from 'Building your audience before building your product', so I built Cominsoon to help makers to set up a coming soon page quickly and get feedback as early as possible.

At the moment, Cominsoon can help makers:

  • Build coming soon page based on templates
  • Pop up survey for subscribers
  • Talk with page visitors from Slack
  • Download subscription to CSV

I want to hear your opinion and suggestion, thank you :)

    Hi wwayne,

    Firstly, congrats on launching!

I'll give you some feedback for the landing page first, followed by more general feedback...

    Landing page:

    • Your tag line (building your...product) describes what your product does not why I should be interested and use the product. A better tag line would be something like <h1>Make sales from day one</h1><p>Capture a list of potential customers with a coming-soon page and turn pre-launch interest into happy customers</p>
    • Your CTA (button)reads create coming soon page. This is work for me as a user. Something like start generating leads is much more positive/motivational.
    • The rest of your landing page focusses on features, not functionality. I'm an average web user, before I care what your product's features are (custom domain etc), you need to get me excited about what your product can do for me...
    • To that end, get me excited and build trust with me! Tell me about the success of people who already used your product and attracted 20 pre-launch customers (testimonials). Show me some logos. It took me a few minutes to work out that your current testimonials aren't just examples of what the product can look like.
    • Personally, I'm not a big fan of 'made for ideas by ideas' - that is very subjective though, I just wanted to let you know in case other people echo my feedback ;)
    • You say it's free but if I understand the pricing model, only the first 14 days are free. I'm not sure whether being opaque on that point will do you any favours long term. Just something to think about.

Feedback to the product in general:

    • Landing pages for pre-launch projects seems to be a hot topic at the moment, especially here on IH. Yet most of the mistakes I see founders make with their landing pages are not UI/aesthetic mistakes - instead it is the sales/marketing aspect of the site that they mess up. Most of these mistakes are common and easily remedied, but have a massive effect on conversion. I'd love to see a landing page builder which helps founders work out what to say, not just what font to say it in. Happy to chat more about this vision if you're interested.
    • You don't ask me for an email address/any personal information until relatively late in the product flow. I'd do this much earlier (perhaps under the pretence of setting up the domain/name of project etc). Then, if the user gets distracted/loses connection/has a meeting, it's easy for you to get them back on the platform. If you feel uncomfortable about not letting people try before they sign-up, then I'd just include a minimal button allowing users to skip the sign-up until later.
    • A really useful feature would be some kind of form to capture further information about sign-ups on my coming-soon page. An email alone isn't very useful for a B2B product - but right after giving the email address is the right time to ask a lead for further useful information such as name, role, company size etc.

I think you've done a great job otherwise with the design of the product. Good luck with the launch and let us know how it goes!

If you could build some form of 'wizard' that takes users through the process of thinking from their customer's perspective, and really encourages/helps with good & thoughtful copywriting, I can see this really adding value that other landing page tools don't. It'd become a tool that helps founders understand their market, not just another landing page tool.

Might be worth reading about Socratic Questioning?

      1. 2

Pretty much what I was aiming for. The problem here is that first-time founders don't know that they have a problem, so it's a hard sell...

        1. 1

Well, I personally find I'm useless at that kind of thing.
I usually need to sit down with a few different people before I even know what questions to ask my users.

I personally would find immense value in this kind of thing. I guess what I'm longing for is some IH accountability scheme...

          1. 2

I get what you mean - that's why the success rate for startups is often higher with a cofounder or two (although this comes with additional problems).

A service I've often thought of creating is basically an accountability scheme with 5-20 of the most capable people I know. Each week, we would give a short update and book 'advice/consulting' time-slots from the other members of the group via a token-based system.

I'd be very happy to swap an hour of expertise on recruiting, raising money or setting up a sales team in return for someone picking apart my mediocre react code, for example.

            1. 3

There's a concept I've come across in books (though I've not done it regularly) of having a 'team' of people to meet with.
I think maybe it was a boxer? But he called it the 'board of directors of his life', it included his Mum, His Dad, an Uncle, a Mentor Friend and his manager I think.

He swore by it. I think if your service was a way to arrange that in a non-weird way it would be super useful (if only to me).

The main thing blocking me from doing it is that I think it would feel really weird to go to friends/family and ask them to do this without fully pitching it to them.

Maybe that's got some legs? Could probably be generalised a bit though.

          2. 1

Hey! I really struggle with the old accountability thing too... I mean, when it's just you, who knows or cares whether or not you did the thing?? I made a chat bot to message me to help focus on that one thing I want to get done every day. It's really been helping so I decided to make it public if you want to check it out? https://heyjess.squarespace.com

wow, really appreciate your feedback @lousisswiss, I will think carefully about your points

    My observations:

    • As Louis said, you need to redo your copy. You need to think like your target user and use the language that's going through their mind. For example for the main tagline you could say "Start validating your next idea within minutes" or something to that effect, but feel free to experiment.
    • The site is broken on mobile. It seems the 'Who Is Coming Soon' is too wide.
    • Consider changing 'Who Is Coming Soon' as it sounds like an about us section. Do you mean users who have set up landing pages recently?
    • Add a CTA button at the bottom of the page as well.

There are some spelling/grammar issues. You've done a good job though building this in a language that I appreciate isn't your first! Just some tips:

    • Templates: "Choose from x amount of templates, with more being added regularly"!
    • Survey: "Get feedback from visitors to your coming soon page with our survey feature. Learn more" (great opportunity to link to a short guide or blog post on how to set this up, which is also good for SEO)
    • Engage With Visitors: do you mean live chat or almost real-time messaging functionality?
    • SEO: I don't understand, how does your product help with SEO? Do you mean "All Cominsoon pages are SEO optimised, giving you a boost in the rankings"?
    • Free Domain: be careful, as it sounds like a custom domain might be free! "Use either your own custom domain or a free Cominsoon subdomain."
    • Export Signups: "View email signups in your dashboard and easily export the list to a CSV file!"

I suggest using Capital Letters for each word as above or Sentence case, but not a mix.

Design is very slick, great job on that! Good luck!

Thank you @sarwech for giving such a detailed suggestion on my copy, I have to say it's even harder than writing CSS, thanks again :)

      1. 1

Tell me about it ;) I'd definitely say to prioritise your copy right now, as your design is actually already very good.

Do remember to share (give me a message on here or Twitter) when you have the updated version and I'd be happy to give you more feedback.

    Hi,

this is a great idea, and I can see myself using it.
There's just one small thing. The templates all look very similar to each other. Just a different layout/colors, but the core principle is always the same.
I think that adding specialized templates for iPhone apps will widen the usefulness to a greater audience.
I for example am building a landing page for an iPhone app right now, but I didn't find any template that would suit my needs.

Hi @domysee, thanks for your feedback.

For me, the main concept behind Cominsoon is validating the product idea, so currently my focus is on how to build the relationship between makers and their audience or how to let them communicate with each other, so I don't think a template is that important(maybe I'm wrong).

If you are building an App landing page for your app, I think https://appsite.skygear.io/ might be more suitable?

      1. 1

Thanks for the tip of skygear, but actually the landing page is almost finished :) dreamfort.org if you're interested.

I believe a landing page is the first step to even build an audience.
Anyway, cominsoon has a strong focus on the landing page. The call to action button is "Create coming soon page", and "Templates" is the only link on the top right that promises value.
To be honest, I didn't even see that you also offer surveys and chat functionality. Only after your response did I have a closer look and realized that.
Additionally, SEO and free domain are supportive for the landing page.
All of this together made me think cominsoon is all about creating a landing page. So if you don't want to focus on it that much, you probably should put a lot more emphasis on the other features.

Hope this helps you. (and I also hope this doesn't sound harsh, it's just my take on it :) )

        1. 1

You are correct, I've got a lot of suggestion on updating my landing page and that's my high priority, haha. Thanks for your point.

BTW, the link you posted doesn't work, you may have to check it, good luck :)

          1. 1

Ah right, thanks for the hint. Simple typo :D

Glad to hear my view helped.
Wish you all the success in the world :)

    Hi.

When I first read your post I wasn't fully impressed, my initial thought was "meh". But once I opened website and tried builder I was really impressed. That's awesome implementation.

Just one idea (although I'm sure you have it on to-do list). I would also add option to buy custom domain via your service. This could be additional revenue...

Great work. Wish you all best with it!

I have to admit I haven't thought about selling domain haha, thanks for your feedback :)
