Indie hackers mobile app???

Hey fellow IHers, I’ve been interested for a while in making an indie hackers app to solve the problem of it being difficult to read posts and navigate the site on mobile sometime. Hopefully the main man Courtland Allen could give some insight on how possible this would be, but if not does anyone else have two cents to give?

    Hey Feargal!!

What's happening Mike welcome to the community!

Could you tell us what is your mobile pain point with IH? Maybe it could be just fixed (in a responsive way).

It’s mostly do with the screen space available to me when I’m doing things like writing this comment. It could be fixed with some responsive css probably but a web app is just never gonna get anywhere near a mobile app for performance. It would be more of a vitamin than a painkiller for sure but I think it could add value to the site

        Also push notifs

Are you getting email notifications successfully when people respond to your comments?

Also, if you want to make a very specific list of suggestions for how to make the IH mobile site better, it would help me out! Though no guarantees I'll get to any of it immediately.

I am not, maybe I have them turned off or blocked through some third party though I’m pretty ruthless with my email I use unroll.me like once every two weeks,

Ok here is what I’ve noticed so far,

            1. The screen doesn’t respond that well left to right it’s like wider than the screen which is kinda annoying, width:100% might solve this problem in .
            2. My logged in state doesn’t get saved that well on my phone, so every time I re log in to the site everytime I reopen it.
There’s more but I can’t remember them, is the code open source so I can open issues as I come across them?
            1. 1

Okay, I'll look into both of those issues. What kind of phone and browser are you using, btw? The code isn't open source.

Chrome on iPhone 7 . If you want to call me to run through it via hangouts or something feel free to reach out on feargswalsh@gmail.com

Hey Feargal, it looks like you have an iPhone, but I just posted a React Native prototype of an IH mobile app: https://www.indiehackers.com/forum/show-ih-indie-hackers-on-mobile-indie-readers-e983dc3bd3. Any feedback/ideas on what to build next would be appreciated 🙏

Nice @jkau! Sorry I'm only seeing it now. I'll give you some feedback asap, I have an Android device :)

Ps I feel like react native would be the best option since I vaguely remember courtland saying the site was mostly react, I’m envisioning something similar to the way people build hacker news readers.

    1. 2

I might be wrong but I believe it's Ember not react

      1. 1

Shouldn’t be that hard to figure out using the devtools

        1. 3

It is ember as far as I can tell, but there might be other things going on.

          1. 1

Yeah looks like it hmm there’s very little ember development in cross platform apps,

            1. 1

Yep IH is 100% Ember, 0% React
