Just launched 5th product in 4 weeks! Feedback?

Hey everyone!

From launching our own blog we’ve discovered just how much a PITA it is to maintain itβ€”let alone actively grow it.

Blogs are great growth mechanisms for products (SEO, targeted traffic, branding, etc.), but they also require a lot of love & attention. Beyond writing the blog in the first place, you also have to get it in front of the right people.

We heard all about this problem when we launched Scribble (an on demand blog writing subscription for startups), and thought we had the right background to address it.

Exclamation is a seamless way to promote your blog posts on targeted subreddits. Here’s how it works:

  1. Send us a link when you publish a new post
  2. We’ll generate a custom list of 10 targeted subreddits for each post you submit
  3. We’ll hand-submit the posts (to avoid getting flagged as spam) to the subreddits within 5 days

Exclamation is for those who have enough time to write a great blog post, but not enough to share it everywhere they should. Your blog should help your product grow, not suck time away from working on it.

Exclamation is really exciting when it’s combined with Scribble: essentially with these two you can automate both the writing of your blog and the promotion of it. You can just sit back, relax, and leave your entire blog on autopilot. That way you can focus on what actually matters: product & users.

I'd love to hear your thoughts on this! Here's our Product Hunt post: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/exclamation-by-scribble

Your case study on Rumblr is either a troll or extremely well-devised joke :D :D :D

Hey @matthenderson , congrats on the new launch. A very clever by-product to Scribble , understanding the user's pain.

Are you using a specific emoji or icon package? I can't seem to see the icons in the website, I can only the square.

Also correct me if I am wrong, if I rightly remember you mentioned in your blog, you wouldn't be blogging too much about the 24 products in 12months journey in depth. But at some point soon it would be nice to read about the journey in depth.

Congrats on the launches till date and best of luck for the future projects.

We're just using text-based emojis, so it doesn't have support everywhere. Need to fix that!

We have a few blog posts coming, and I'm also taking Twitter a little more seriously if you haven't followed me there. Flow is going to be tweet storm -> refined blog post

      Appreciate you following along! πŸ™‚

Hey Matt, I love the website design. What tools did you use? Solo coded?

    1. 1

      Thanks @IJ!

It's pretty custom now, but we use the Bulma framework for columns/responsiveness & base-level styling

  4. 2

    Congrats Matt.

    Keep 'em coming!

Cool idea! How do you source strong writers?

    1. 1

Thanks @bodecourtney! We source through our first-degree network––we have writers from companies like Giphy & Hearst, and grads from elite schools like NYU, Georgetown, etc.

All our writers are based in the US and are native English speakers πŸ™‚

      1. 2

That's solid. How do you get industry knowledge? For example, I blog about outsourcing / how to build ops departments like customer support or fraud prevention. This feels like it's too niche to outsource the writing itself.

        1. 1

When you submit a prompt, you can give us resources to understand what we need to write about and/or point us in the right direction to research / learn / find data.

Obviously you're going to understand the space best, so during the revision / editing process, we'll work together to polish all the details

          1. 1

I like the idea of providing research materials, makes sense! Is there a cap on how many articles you get with the subscription model?

            1. 1

Nope! Obviously can't write ∞ posts, but we don't arbitrarily cap the number either

Really Helpful for makers and founders who need to focus 100% on product and customers! πŸš€πŸš€πŸš€

Hey @matthenderson, trying to open http://vonhughes.com/ , which takes very long to load, and (without loading) redirects here https://www.855549.com/#kmm1111 . Have you guys been hacked or something?

    1. 1

Hey @mkarnicki! von Hughes has been out of commission for a while!

This is a really cool product. I would definitely use it if it costed less than $700. I was ready to sign up.

@ShineMonk Thanks Shane! What price point would you be looking for?

      Thanks @webapppro!

We're experimenting with a few different analytics techniques. Sometimes URL shorteners hurt traffic and seem spammy. You should be able to track reddit traffic from your GA.

Scribble is almost at ~$900 MRR since launching last Wednesday. I tried to add it and our rev/traffic numbers to IH's product directory, but it crashes/freezes every time I try. Maybe we have too many products connected to our profile (cc @csallen / @channingallen for this bug)?
