How "tacky" is it to talk about your product during another company's launch?

Say your competitor launches version 2.0 of their product - but your product is better in a number of areas.

How tacky is it to jump in and start talking about your product? Seems like a good way to piss off their team and who knows what could happen in the future (they could acquire you) or vice versa.

Yet sometimes I feel that mentioning my product is a good idea as they are often different.

At the company I am at now, we have a competitor who's founder is fairly vocal in our industry, we sort of chuckle at his responses whenever we have some news about our product. He's spewed out false claims regarding our own metrics. He's talked down about deals we made in the industry. He talks about how his company/product is better.

When I see that same behavior on Product Hunt I tend to roll my eyes 🙄.

While I understand his position to fight for his company, I would say it doesn't do him any favors. Inside the industry people have started to take what he says with a grain of salt.

The way I see it is that our industry is huge and anything that helps our customers save money and gain better margins doing business is good. Any competitor with the same mission is only making our industry stronger.
