#009 - Commenting is Under Valued, If You Do It Right (1-min)

I learned this yesterday:

You don't need to write a viral post to get traffic from it.

How does that work?

Let me explain:

So people post every day in online communities

and 3-5 of those posts will become the "top posts" each day.

They'll get the views.

Now instead of trying to write that post each day, simply leave a super valuable comment on them.

What makes a valuable comment?

Well, here's what's worked for me.

My replies that converted the most people to click my profile had these three qualities:

  1. A short story about something I've done or used.
  2. A link out to a resource.
  3. A photo or short video.

Here' examples of replies that got high impressions, but low profile clicks.

Tweet replies without profile clicks

Note: I didn't do #1-3.

And here are replies where I got both high impressions and high profile clicks.

Tweet replies with profile clicks

Note again: I did do #1-3.

Maybe it's nothing.

But it's something I'm going to keep testing out, and I thought maybe it could help someone else here.

Cheers!
