My team thinks of three major elements for branding: visual, language, and identity.
Visual - imagery, graphics, etc that are used to communicate identity
Language - text, emojis, and formatting used to communicate identity
Identity - who we are, who we're targeting, what we do, and what we plan to do
(being super concise on the above)
Visuals help to hook people, but (normally) language is what evokes people to action, and identity is how you wrap everything together into a package people can understand

It's important to know how competitors are branding themselves as it can show shortcuts while also showing what to avoid!
A lot of our mentors/advisors always recommend doing a market deep dive before sincerely pursuing an idea so you understand the "landscape" you're getting into.
