AMA about SEO

Hi IH,

I'm the founder of linkody.com, an SEO tool for managing backlinks. Through that business I learned quite a lot about SEO and I would like to share it through this AMA.

disclaimer:
I am not an SEO professional and don't consider myself an expert. However, 100% of my customers are acquired through organic traffic so I may have done one or two things right.

disclaimer 2:
SEO is not an exact science. You will read everything and its opposite. Some things don't work, some others do. Sometimes you don't know why. Sometimes you think you do ;)

Hi Francois! Thank you for doing this.

Do you have any general SEO advice for sites with a large number of pages?

I've recently launched volt.fm and it has close to 2 million pages now (artists, tracks, users, playlists, etc.). My impressions on Google are growing rapidly (60K/day currently) but my CTR is very low <1%.

Any tips on how to improve it?

    Thanks.

      Hey Soheil,

Congrats on launching volt.fm. I like the design.

The general advice would be to work on your titles and descriptions, A/B tests to see what works better. You can definitely try that.

But what makes it difficult is that you have the exact same content as Spotify, apart from a bio and some stats on your users' profile page. So searchers are likely to click on Spotify results.

What are the search intents that your value proposition covers? Comparing your musical tastes, having a personalized URL... what content can you create around that?

Also, think about targeting long tail keywords that are less directly associated but still have some potential to convert. For instance, "how to find people on Spotify" has a decent volume of 760 monthly searches but very low difficulty.

Later, if you see that a page is converting, boost it by getting backlinks specifically to this page.

        Thank you, Francois.

        Great tips!
