Are Upvotes Really Telling Us Which Products People Need?

Upvotes can show that people liked a launch, but they don't always tell you whether someone actually needed the product.
A product with fewer votes might be extremely useful to a small group of people, while a highly visible product might simply have received more attention.
I’m interested in a different approach: quality + relevance + genuine discovery, rather than popularity alone.
That’s what we’re experimenting with at LaunchNest LN.

This is a really important question. Upvotes measure engagement and resonance, not necessarily real demand. Something can get tons of upvotes because it's relatable or aspirational without people actually paying for it. One frame I find useful: upvotes show what people WISH existed, while payment shows what they NEED enough to act on. Both signals are valuable — they're just answering different questions about your product.
