Building website that resells uncommon crafts

Hi everyone. I just wanted to get your thoughts on this idea. I have been thinking a lot about building a website that can be like a side project for me,especially that I have immigrated to Canada and trying my best to come up with an idea that could be bringing me an additional income, and most importantly build my skills in web development using Laravel. In the past few months, I noticed there were several groups on Facebook (buy and sell, immigrant market groups, immigrant bazaar and so many more ) with so many posts related to selling crafts that are related to our culture so I was thinking if me building a website that follows the same idea as uncommongoods website by listing the crafts that are truly unique and interesting but make it focused on a group of people from a certain culture. If I was able to connect with good vendors who can solve an issue that could be challenging which is the shipping, I should probably be able to convince more people to allow me to list their crafts, especially that many of the artists based on what I see on daily basis in Facebook groups have a challenge in delivering their crafts to many potential customers. I would really appreciate if you could guide me if such a business idea could work or not. Thanks a lot.

Interesting, I'm a Laravel Dev myself and have been thinking about building a marketplace as well. Stripe connect can perfectly handle the marketplace part of your app (payment, fees etc) which nicely fits with the laravel framework.

It is a very interesting idea.

I'm not sure about the business side, but for the tech.. you could start off with a Shopify account... build up a website, send out emails to people you know in those groups who might be interested in listing their items in your shop and then just manage those orders... taking a fee off the top or something.
