There’s as much bad, harmful startup advice out there as good (maybe more) — and it’s not always obvious what’s credible and what isn’t.

Don’t get swept away by people who sound like they must know what they’re talking about. Make your own decisions.

Always ask yourself: What does the person writing this [let’s be honest it’s always a Medium post] have to gain?

So much startup advice is just poorly disguised marketing for the author’s… product, startup, book, course, fund, consulting, etc.

Read critically.

More than anything, though, ask what the person giving the advice has actually accomplished.

One of the easiest ways to spot bullshit advice is when it comes from people who have lots of strong opinions and knowledge about startups but weirdly never built a successful business.
