When you are planning to grow your audience, everyone tells you: Go find your audience, find where they are hanging, and participate with value…
But, how?
How do people with more than 100k twitter followers, or ~50k LinkedIn followers, or 1m Youtube subscribers, grow their audience when they started out?
It’s no doubt that creators are racing to build their audience.
We want to grow our audience, because so we can launch products easier and having a big following helps that.
This also is supported by living proofs like Daniel, Randall, Janet, who started out without meaningful followers list, but when they launched, it was like easy as pie to get thousands of sales.
I’ve studied some of Twitter accounts that in the past 1 year have grown their followers. Although this research derived from Twitter, I believe the same actionable tactics are applicable to other social media platforms (LinkedIn, Youtube, etc).
If you still want to grow your audience, read on.
If you follow accounts that have, say 2~5k followers, you may see their tweet, probably once, or twice in your timeline. That may not be a concidence. Every tweet you bring can be someone’s epiphany out there.
Tweeting daily can increase your awareness, and even bring you some retweets.
But, we don’t want to tweet our great content into a void, do we? That’s why we need to tweet smart.
While you’re low on followers, spend more time engaging with others. Have conversations.
When you respond to popular tweets, your tweets get more visibility.
If your tweets are good, people will visit your profile and consider following.
So try these steps:
Express clear and valueable topic in your bio. E.g. “Tweeting about helping you grow your audience”.
Use pinned tweets to extend your bio. Example: your highest value, most retweeted tweet.
Your last 2-4 tweets can help someone decide to follow you or not. Make sure your last tweets appeal to them.
The number of your followers in social media will mean nothing if they decide to ban you.
Not long ago, a big social media company decide to ban one of an influential account. We want to avoid that.
You need to move your followers to your own channel, say like your newsletter or your blog.
2 ways to make that happen:
