I have been indiehacking for a while now and I think for indiehackers, the right product is the one that satisfies both these criteria:
If it is sale based, your monthly revenue is pretty much sitting at $0 at the start of every month. One bad month, because you are sick or off on a vacation, means a big drop in revenue.
Hitting that monthly MRR goal will eventually take a toll on you especially if you are a solo person working on it.
The customer should be tied to your product & his/her growth should entirely depend on continuous use of your product.
For example, if your product optimizes something for your customer then there is no need for that customer to return next month.
He/she will cancel the subscription after the first month since everything that needed optimization has already been optimized and there is no real need for the next 6 months or so.
If your product fulfills both these points then you are doing alright and all you need is a bit of effort and luck to increase that MRR. Such products have a lower churn rate and longer customer retention.
WDYT about these points? I would love to hear your take on this.
