How much automated testing do you do as an Indie Hacker?

Unit tests, integration tests, end to end tests? No tests at all?

I wonder if coding "best practices" are useful to an Indie Hacker looking to move quickly or if testing holds people back from achieving their business goals.

It depends, I don't think testing holds people back it enables them. In my opinion tests are essential for frontend and backend. Testing is a time investment but you gain trust in your code and the ability to change it later. Yesterday, I had to refactor on of my services and I would not be able to do it quickly and with confident if I would not have write any test. Testing is no short win but in the long run it helps you to stay productive. If you would not write any tests you need to test everything manually and development gets really slow, the chances that things break for your customer are also much higher. There is only one exception when I would not write any tests and this is for prototyping when I am sure that the prototype gets thrown away after proving its point.
