How to make your first $1,000 from a mobile app in 8 simple steps

  1. Don’t just build from an idea. Start with keyword research or test viral angles on TikTok.
Use Reddit or anywhere you can hack free distribution. Distribution is everything.
  2. Stop cramming features. Nail your onboarding.
If users don’t get why you solve their problem in 30 seconds, nothing else matters.
  3. After onboarding → show a paywall. Every time.
If your app has no backend/API costs, test a free trial. Don’t give too much away for free—limit it or cut it.
  4. Run offers on big dates: Black Friday, Christmas, Valentine’s Day.
    People are primed to buy.
  5. Don’t just list features on your paywall. Sell the outcome.
“Better sleep” beats “10 sounds to choose from.”
  6. If they close the first paywall, hit them with another offer.
It works way better than you think.
  7. When they reopen the app, show another paywall.
Add a discount. Rotate offers so each open feels different.
  8. Not in a brutal category? Test Apple Search Ads early.
Build custom product pages. Skip Basic campaigns.
