I am changing my mind about entrepreneurship. You?

I used to think that in order to innovate, you had to invent the future. I don't think that anymore.

When I started companies/projects in the past, I was always trying to make something that was not available, didn't exist, something that be difficult to create but would make a big dent.

It was hard, and the future always came years later, by which time I was exhausted and didn't care about the problem anymore.

When I started Smartynames.com, on the other hand, I took a completely opposite approach. I did one thing, and one thing only. I launched the bare minimum, and I didn't try to invent anything. At the very most, I innovated with new technology, on top of the old paradigm.

Not only was it 100x easier to get started, but I am now having more fun, and finding it easier to talk to people about the product. Doing sales is a walk in a park. I just reach out to potential customers, pitch a product, and they get it. I don't have to explain anything; the value is right there on the front page.

All in all, innovating seems to be more fun and less effort than inventing, and it yields better financial results with more users, much faster. I don't feel great about not inventing cool stuff, but I do feel amazingly well about my progress, and user response. It feels so wrong, and yet it feels so good!

Has anyone else experienced this?
