I built a free tool to cut GitHub Actions costs by 50%. Built with Vanilla JS.

Hey IH,

If you use GitHub Actions, you know how confusing the pricing gets when you mix Ubuntu, macOS, and Windows runners. The bills escalate fast, and estimating them before the end of the month is basically a guessing game.

I wanted to solve this, so I built a free visual calculator: https://githubactionscost.online/

Here is what it does:

  • You paste your workflow YAML file into the editor.
  • It parses your jobs and compares the exact costs across different OS environments and self-hosted runners.
  • I integrated an AI analyzer that reviews your steps to suggest actionable optimizations (like aggressive caching or fixing missing timeouts). In testing, this cuts costs by 40% to 60%.

The Tech Stack & Privacy:
I built this entirely with vanilla HTML, CSS, and JS. I know developers hate pasting infrastructure code into random apps, so I made sure there is zero backend database. The parsing happens entirely on the fly in the browser. Your architecture stays 100% private.

My main goal right now is to get some brutal feedback on the UX, the AI suggestions, and any complex YAML edge cases I might have missed.

Would love to hear your thoughts. Let me know if it helps lower your CI/CD bills!
