I built a local-first PDF to Excel converter because I didn't trust the cloud tools

Hey everyone,

I've been working on a tool to solve a personal pain point: converting bank statements to Excel without uploading sensitive financial data to a random server.

Most tools (like AutoEntry) are expensive, and the free online converters are privacy nightmares.

So I built PDF to Excel HQ.

It runs a local parsing engine in the browser.

Offline Mode: Your PDF never leaves your device.
Cloud Mode: Uses AI for messy scans (optional).
I'm looking for early feedback on the parsing accuracy. If you have a messy statement, I'd love to see if this breaks or succeeds.

You can break it here: https://pdftoexcelhq.com/testers

Let me know what you think!

Same pain — bank statements should not hit a random upload endpoint.

I shipped a bank-statement-specific converter that also stays in the browser, and it checks each row against the statement’s own running balance so you can see whether the spreadsheet is trustworthy before import. Scans/photos still need OCR (I route those honestly instead of guessing).

Local-first is why I would try this. Bank statements should not leave the machine, and the cloud path should stay off unless someone turns it on.
