I have a quandary. I think I need to make a major change in how I brand myself and my services. For a long time I have put any of my online work under the "Netbuddy" banner. I've held the Australian and .pro domain for a long time. I really only intended to target an Australian audience (my home country) so I wasnt bothered that the .com was "premium" and several thousands of dollars at the time. A year or so ago, I registered the .io domain.
I've known for some time there is an internet service provider in the U.S - Netbuddy.co. Been around a long time. Top of the SERPS. Seem to be focused on rural U.S customers. Now I see there is a Netbuddy.nl....and there doing website design. A direct competitor.
As a solo operator there is no way I can now rank anywhere near the top of the SERPS for "Netbuddy" as a single word.
And so....I have an alter ego, Mattius. Mattius was a nickname an old Italian manager of mine gave me as an alternative to Matthew. It should have been Matteo, the Italian for Matthew, but now I am thinking about using Mattius as my new personal branding. I hold two relevant domains madmattius .com, which I was going to use for online gaming. And mattius.pro. Which is obviously more solo sounding. Mad Mattius can be interpreted in many ways. Would you trust somebody that had "Mad" in their business title? But I can also use it as a sales tool. "This guy is nuts! Doing outrageous prices on......." That sort of thing.
I need a change. Im not sure what direction to take, but it has to happen. Use mattius.pro for online work and madmattius for gaming, youtube? Thats what im thinking now.
Whats your advice?
