Does anyone have positive experiences with cookie-free website analytics? I know there's some options out there, but I'm curious if anyone is using a particular product and is happy with the solution. Personally I'm a bit tired of all those cookie consent popups and I can't bring myself to add yet another one to the web.
Another vote for Plausible Analytics. It's a beautiful, clean interface, and I love their ethical stance.

Ah, interesting.
Plausible Analytics IS cookie free. The script that our users insert on their sites is completely cookie free.
On our own website plausible.io we place one cookie for our registered users after they've logged in so they don't have to log in again on each subsequent visit. You can read more in our privacy policy: https://plausible.io/privacy
This is completely different and separate from the script you use on your website.
Thanks for the clarification. :) I'm really enjoying plausible.io so far.
glad to hear that Will, thanks!
Oh yeah 💪
You should check out the Plausible Analytics, made by our friends IndieHackers, Marko and Uku.
Cheers!
Is plausible analytics cookie-free?
Yes, it is.

Do they!
Guess @markosaric could explain the usage of cookies in the source?
I can confirm that I have no cookies set by Plausible.io whatsoever. I use Plausible on all of my websites for a while now.
For example, you can check it here (https://www.cookieserve.com) and go with my https://hostedstatus.page.
You will get only the Crisp Chat cookie. If you check the index source, you can see that I in fact use a plausible tracker, but with a custom domain (line 88).
thanks for verifying that Nikola!

Ah ok, was in a folder called tracker so you can see the confusion.
So you treat every visitor as a new user? or don't make the distinction?
GDPR doesn't allow any type of persistent tracking without getting clear consent from people first. In order to be GDPR compliant out of the box so our users don't need to ask their visitors for GDPR consent, it is not possible to track people with any type of persistent identifiers such as cookies, user IDs etc.
So we can see if the same person returns to the website on the same day but cannot see if the same person returns to the website on different days. You can read more here: https://plausible.io/data-policy
We will make a note in that code to explain that the cookie there is for our own website only but it's already well explained on our website and it's very easy in 2 mins to verify that we don't use any cookies on the script itself. Would appreciate if you could make a note in your messages too to not spread misinformation. Thanks!

I've been using plausible for the latest couple of months. Easy to setup and use so couldn't be happier.
I use Umami because you can self-hosted on free platform like Vercel and put your db in Heroku PostgreSQL, free :)
And its cookies-free
If your only concern are cookies, it’s also possible to have use cookie-less Google Analytics. Requires a few extra lines of code, but totally possible.
I do use a cookie consent but not because of analytics - to satisfy GDPR requirements. We have users worldwide, including Europe.
