Practical vs Aspirational

Having dabbled in both the B2C and the B2B space, I've noticed something about what seems to sell in both spaces.

B2B products need to focus on being practical, while B2C products need to be more aspirational.

If your B2C product doesn't create a feeling of aspiration in users, it's going to be hard to get them to give you money. Your customer/user needs to envision your product making them a better version of their current self. It needs to enable them to envision how much better their lives would be through your offering or allow them to at least see some material improvement in their lives. Aspiration is hard to measure or appreciate, and that's one of the reasons B2C products/apps are hard to properly monetize IMHO.

B2B products on the other hand are far more objective in their goals. It's either saving the customer money or enabling them to make more of it. And if it does either in a beautiful and intuitive way, you've pretty much won. As a result, the practical nature of B2B products makes them very easy to monetize.

Of course, I could be dead wrong about this. Either way, it's just my observation.
