Read this before building

Stop building things without proper validation.

Wrong ways:

  • You want it, so you build it
  • You ask for feedback from people, and they tell you it’s great and you build it

Right way:

  • You find people actively seeking a solution to the problem you are solving
  • You talk to them, and you learn more about the problem and the impact it’s having on their lives
  • You make simple marketing material and you build a small following of potential users
  • You find people willing to put their skin in the game (like you) and give you something in return for getting this product (their time, money, knowledge)
  • You then start building

Here is the key lesson for me:

We need early adopters on board before we build anything.

Who are the early adopters?

They are not simply people who fit your target audience and show interest in your solution…

They must be actively seeking a solution to the problem, otherwise it’s not a big enough of a problem for them to pay for anyway.

For example: everyone wants to be fit and healthy, so if you are building a product to help people get fit… a lot of people will give you good feedback.

How many of those people are actively working on getting fit vs just say they want?

Your early adopters are the ones seeking a solution, otherwise your solution may not have anyone to use it.
