Remote Work vs. The Office: What’s Best for Your Startup?

Where do you stand in this heated discussion?

Are you eager to go back to the office?

Or has remote work won your heart?

Everyone seems to have an opinion about it, but the decision is far from straightforward. Especially if you’re running a business.

Just this morning I was drinking my coffee and browsing the news, as I usually do, when I noticed an article about a study Morning Consult did for Bloomberg.

39% of workers inquired mentioned they intend to quit their jobs if they’re not allowed to work fully remote.

It’s even worse if we look at millennials and Gen Z, with 49%.

Then you have people like the CEO of Morgan Stanley, James Gorman, saying things like he’d be "very disappointed" if US-based workers had not returned by September.

Tech giants such as Apple and Google have also recently reversed pandemic working conditions, telling staff to return to the office in the next few months.
Amazon, on the other hand, seems to be following a hybrid approach.

Employees are expected to work in-office at least three days per week, with the specific days to be decided on by leadership teams.

The remote work vs. office debate seems to be in everyone’s mouth these days. And with good reason as it may shape the business landscape in a post-covid world.

Here at Altar is no different.

We’ve been going back and forth as to what the best decision for our people is.
And because we’ve reached somewhat of a consensus as to where the scale tips in our case, I wanted to share our reasoning with you.

You can find it here.

There, our co-founder Paolo explores the pros and cons of going back to the office – and why, in his experience – “the office is the best environment for a startup’s success.”
