Should SEO Be Your Top Priority as an Early-stage SaaS Startup?

Most marketing experts say that SEO shouldn’t be a priority for early-stage SaaS startups.

Here are some of their arguments:

👉 SEO is a competitive channel, and it’s difficult for early-stage SaaS startups to get results from it.

👉 SEO doesn't drive immediate results. So, early-stage SaaS startups shouldn't focus on it.

👉 As an early-stage SaaS startup, Google doesn’t trust you, so it might take 6-12 months before you start ranking.

👉 As a startup, you most likely haven’t established Product-Market Fit (PMF), so it won’t make sense to invest in SEO yet.

For me, I disagree.

Instead, I tell early-stage SaaS startups to go all-in with content marketing from day one.

This includes SEO as well.

While content marketing and SEO are becoming more saturated by the day, you can still succeed with it even if you're an early-stage SaaS startup.

To share why I think so, I wrote this in-depth post.

SEO is a MUST at every stage of the startup. If you make a SaaS company, and you haven’t played with SEO your website will probably be on page 10 on google, no one is looking at page 10. Your job as a company owner is at least rank the site on page 2 or three. Isn't impossible to reach those numbers with a bit of SEO learning you will be able to find your first few customers.
