Simple vs scary pivots

You get a new piece of information from your users and suddenly realise that you need to change your product. Your roadmap changes, but for the better.

Pivots should feel great, right? You tried building what your customers wanted, and now you're doing that in a much better way.

I've pivoted maybe 5 or 6 times in the last 6 months of building my startup, but now I'm close to another one and it doesn't feel as good as it usually does.

The next pivot isn't minor, it's a pivot that would change my entire vision and mission. I'm not sure if I want to do that.

Sure, it'll make my life easier to pivot now but I also got into this because of my startup's mission. Do I want to give up on that and build a 'boring' but useful product instead? Not really.

I'm gonna take a leap of faith and just continue building something that might never be used by more than a handful of people. But at least I'll have the time of my life doing it.

What are your thoughts? Should I just suck it up and 'build something people want'?

I think that's a totally understandable concern to have. You're not always going to be building something you're super excited about, but if you don't really care about what you're building or (even worse) you hate the audience you're building it for, what's the point? Might as well work for someone else at that point, at least that pays the bills.

true - I still love the people that I'm building for and am going to continue building until I genuinely cant anymore
