It seems like common knowledge that if you want faster download speeds you should consider using AWS CloudFront instead of direct links to your S3 bucket. But, I recently moved my image uploading in Happyfeed over to S3 and it has been so slow.
I tried out multipart uploading but it didn't do much (apparently it's intended for larger files >5MB). So like any good developer, I Googled the problem.
Enter Transfer Acceleration π
By adding this simple line...
AWS.config.update({ useAccelerateEndpoint: true });
you can improve your upload speeds by 50%-500% according to the AWS documentation. It's especially helpful for international users.
It's more expensive than standard uploading (negligible for an IndieHacker with AWS credits) but makes a huge difference if uploading files is a big part of your app. You'll also need to change a setting on the bucket you are using in S3. It's as simple as checking a box.

Hope that helps others as much as it helped me!
