I took a part-time side job as a developer and it's been a breath of fresh air.
We talk a lot, here on Indie Hackers, about being your own boss and being in charge of your destiny.
I've been consulting, indie hacking, stay-at-home dad'ing for over a decade now. And it's been so great on so many levels.
However, being able to "just be a developer" right now is a change of pace that I didn't realize that I needed. Someone else is making those "big" decisions. I just get assigned a ticket from Jira, work on it, and push the code. Plus I get to see how another company builds their tech stack, how they set up their development process, and even how they do marketing, etc.
When I see some procedural things that I would implement differently, I resist the urge to "consult" and go with the flow.
It's so relaxing.
Yep. I quit my job as a senior dev with a lot of responsibility to keep things working but very little authority to improve things. I now just work freelance for an hourly rate for the same company. I just get tickets, fix them, close them. No decisions. Just programming.
Enjoying it.
Doing just one thing at a time helps you remember more, get more done in less time, de-stress, bring more attention to your work, and work smarter, instead of just harder.
