Stand-Up #74 - April 21st, 2020
Little late again but that's okay. As long as I get it done before going to bed, I consider it to be "same-day".
Still didn't get the edit/create countdown components merged. I did more cleanup in the server files, then continued the component merging process. I'm running into a serious performance problem when my global state updates, so I stopped the current task to focus on this first.
My machine has average specs, so any performance issues mean that something is seriously wrong with my code. The first thing that I can think of trying is splitting the global state into a few pieces, not necessarily back down to the useState() hook component level, but to the page level, since each page has many nested components. That means I'll end up with two or three states using the React Context API.
That should hopefully fix the issue. which by my understanding is caused by massive re-renderings of almost all of the React components at once.
Well, I never claimed to be any good at coding... my only redeeming virtue is stubbornness to get this app done and launched despite sucking hah.

I can't easily show the performance issues with a screenshot, so no screenshot today.
Hi Jack, I just randomly came across this post so I have no context for your performance issues, but if you have a lot of components re-rendering unnecessarily you may need to use useMemo.
I'll check it out, thank you!

(useMemo is the hook version of React.memo)
