The Climb
It feels like I just reached the top of a mountain I am climbing, after giving it a lot of effort, were finally here. But wait, it appears a bit different.
Another corner, another feature. Each one makes you feel like you're there, the product is finished - its time to start making money.
I'm looking at a plateau, and it turns out we are just at base #1, there is a whole range ahead of us ... the journey just began ?
When does it end, how long does one struggle in the dark with imperfect information ?
Its a whole new game is what I am saying, we iterate on and on.
The head goes into these modes, where the next piece of feedback will be the one to propel you forward, but perhaps its an endless fallacy ? Its never just the next one is it ? Its an ongoing process.
I just want it to work, what if it doesnt ? What then? How many pivots do we have ? When will be the thing that sticks ? Its so hard to know.
They said you need better search. Now you got it. They say we needed Google login. We got it! Enter a whole new set of problems.
They wanted a free trial, they got it. Finally, some more money is coming in. Aaaand now we can measure our conversion rate, so... video tutorials, onboarding experience and emails, maybe starting a knowledge base.
I just want it to work, what if it doesnt ? What then? How many pivots do we have ? When will be the thing that sticks ? Its so hard to know. And I want the revenue, but are these the right customer ? I just dont know.
It's a whole other world to explore, a new peak on this never ending mountain range. Whats next ? Many users ? Thats going to be a whole bunch of things alltogether.
Every peak seems to take us to a new base, one that we couldn't see before, and couldn't action until that point. Thats whats difficult, because you can only prepare so much, but when you are bootstrapped (or not) you can only manage one thing at a time, and fight and climb the peak that you are on today.
Thats why staying power, grit and resilience are such important things.
