Weird idea: SaaS Swap

This morning I was taking a shower and started thinking "If someone else was running my SaaS what would they do differently?". Then I thought about the show Wife Swap.

If you haven't watched the show, two families would appear in each episode. The wives would swap families for two weeks. The whole point was the families would learn different ways of operating. Often the outcome was good for both families involved.

Could we do something similar for Indie Hackers and their SaaS businesses? Swapping might not be acceptable but perhaps two Indie Hackers could focus on SaaS #1 for one week, and then focus on SaaS #2 for the second week.

Pros:

  1. You get to meet someone new
  2. You get to learn from someone
  3. You can share your knowledge
  4. You can learn about other domains

Cons:

  1. Condensation
  2. Consensus
  3. Confirmation

I like the idea but as @bchristman30 said both swappers should have spare time or see this as a high priority to learn something.

To have a try, why not have a tinder swipe approach? If somebody likes your homepage and you like his/her page, then you have a first (short) SaasSwipe date...

Love the tinder swipe idea! +1 for that :D

I suppose those with limited time like myself wouldn't even sign up. but a neat way to find a match via tinder swipe is cool.

I was actually thinking of something simpler, if someone is willing to do this I'd be happy to SaaS swap. Could be for a week or one or two days.

    Interesting idea here @AnGuRuSO.

I think to make this work you'd need to nail down which type of indie hacker you think is ideal for this.

For example, personally, I'm the "working full-time, wife and kid" type of indie hacker only getting a few hours a week to chip away. Getting someone like me to try and commit to another SAAS and provide any value for the other founder would be doing them a disservice IMO.

Just wanted to share my thoughts. Again, interesting idea and could be really valuable given you get the right founders on board, just something to consider.

No no no no no. Can't believe it's real. NO! 🤦‍♂️

... two Indie Hackers could focus on SaaS #1 for one week, and then focus on SaaS #2 for the second week.

Sounds good, doesn't work. There are lot more cons than you've listed. If it's a revenue generating, support dependent SaaS. I doubt no one would be willing to take a week off. It doesn't worth the second hand for a week.

On the other hand if these "SaaS"s are in idea phase or launch phase, that totally makes sense. Instead of one on one matching, if you build a group of people like 10-100 people. Every member potentially skyrocket their launches. Sometimes all it requires new faces, a few retweets, a little bit of encouragement, initial pump in the producthunt or hackernews etc.

That's what tech communities do essentially. Also the "successful" entrepreneurs. One difference is they don't need to spare a week, an endorsement, a simple testimonial, a retweet does more than a week time of work.

Appreciated the Brandon's honesty, controversially many people will be in the other part of the spectrum even they do their best. Other party may feel they didn't bring enough to the table so wouldn't bother putting much effort in return.
