What steps do you take to ensure working online while overseas?

I'm going to be globe trekking overseas and wanted to get everyone's perspective on travelling while being an Indie Hacker.

What steps do you take to make sure you have enough electronic gear, software, and security measures before travelling overseas?

My concerns are:

  1. Will I be locked out of any essential accounts, like payment processors or web hosting, for suspicious activity?

  2. Will any of my hardware I need break? Do you bring backup laptops?

  3. Will I have access to consistent power and internet? Do I need portable solar panels and satellite internet devices?

  4. Will any hardware I acquire within the country contain trojans?

  5. Will my internet connections secure while inside the country I am visiting? What steps can I take?

  6. Will any hardware or software I bring into the country draw suspicion and scrutiny from immigration officials? Either because you brought in too many items, or possess prohibited items (i.e. satellite internet).

What measures would you take? Do you have any stories of difficulty, stories that are funny, or headaches?

I would like to read what everyone has faced and done.

Thank you and cheers!

Thank you for your reply, it was very insightful.

My plan will be travelling to Russia, China, maybe some African Middle Eastern countries.

I will definitely be making some phone calls and sending additional emails to entities you mentioned (banks, embassy, etc) to gather more information on technical security measures and taxes.

"...and I would speak with me email provider and my bank before I got on the aircraft."

Exactly. My fear is getting on a very long flight, then wake up to a bunch of notifications I have been locked out.
