Why Stripe is a company of hypocrites.

https://stripe.com/works-with/category/mobile-payments

Half way into developing our startup (a mobile payments app, similar to AliPay, but with processing fees at half the cost) we get a message from Stripe saying we violated their TOS somehow -- all because we were trying to figure out how to activate platform payments on our connect account. What hurts the most is that there are plenty of mobile payments using stripe connect in the same way we intend to use them and some how we are the ones getting shut down.

My cofounder said it best: stripe is a dream until it isn’t. She loved you guys.

You guys were the underdogs, set out to make payments easy, more human? But somewhere along the lines, something changed. I chose Stripe over Braintree because I believed in that message, I want to support you to overtake paypal, but this is the outcome? We made sure Stripe was the right partner by looking at other mobile payments startups using Connect to check if the use case aligns. We asked for help from support, and instead got our account terminated, I guess asking too much questions is not something Big Brother Stripe wants.

Moral of the story, don't use Stripe Connect, go with Braintree Marketplace or something. Also don't ask too many questions. It sad, but company values do change as they get bigger, and they're no longer the little guys. Sucks, because Stripe Connect was easy to use and their API documentation was incredible. Too bad their support and sales team hate startups, and refuse to even look at similar businesses using their services before shutting others down.

If anyone knows who I can reach out to on stripe's end, or a worthwhile alternative to Connect (dreading the switch to Braintree). Would love the help.

Sorry if it came off like that. But I didn’t come here to ask for favors or handouts. I came to share an incredibly frustrating experience as a founder. We have backup plans in Braintree or Dwolla, but preferred stripe BECAUSE of what Patrick stood for and what they were trying to create.

But this was almost a year of work in development, integrating and testing. To be blindsided like this and only get copy pasted response hurts. A lot.

Stripe promised us a lot, and worked like a dream, until the rug was pulled right from under us, and now we’re scrambling to pick up the pieces and start a new.

This is more like a warning to startups looking to work with stripe. Be careful is all it’s a rough lesson to learn, I guess the only positive is it didn’t happen when we became live.
