ProdQuest
Gamified Platform for Learning Software Engineering
Hey everyone,
I’m working on ProdQuest (https://prodquest.app), a platform to help people get out of tutorial hell.
I've been in IT for 20 years, but I’ve never actually coded for a living. I know how to code, but I never worked in a dev team. When I wanted to learn what real software engineering looks like-CI/CD pipelines, repo organization, managing git branches-I realized tutorials only teach syntax. They don't teach you how to work in an organization.
So I got the idea for ProdQuest: an AI mentor that puts you in a real browser-based terminal with git and teaches you through gamification.
Here is the thing. Building a browser-based environment with terminal emulation and deterministic grading is hard. Since I am not a senior software engineer, I am using AI agents to write the code for the MVP.
I'm acting as a product manager-steering the AI and testing. I know the underlying code probably isn't elegant right now. But my goal isn't perfect code, it's to test the business hypothesis.
My plan is to finish the MVP by the end of September and launch a closed beta cohort to see if users actually want to learn this way. If the traction is there and the hypothesis is validated, I plan to incorporate and hire 4-5 developers. Their first job will be to review and refactor the AI-generated code to prepare it for scale.
I wanted to share this because I know the dev community can be critical. I'm not pretending to be a senior engineer. I'm a founder trying to solve a problem using the best tool I have right now.
Has anyone else validated a complex SaaS this way? I’d love to hear your thoughts on this "build with AI now, refactor with humans later" approach.
