My day job is cost estimating. I read price lists and spec sheets and put numbers on them, and I pointed that at software: 14 invoicing and booking tools, every figure read from the vendor's own pricing page.

What I found is that the tool is the small half. The same $1,000 invoice costs $5.00 or $58.30 depending on how the client pays you. That gap is larger than any subscription on the list.

I priced these tools; I have not lived with them. Where a vendor does not publish a number, I say that instead of guessing.
