Ask IH: How do you track metrics for your bootstrapped projects?

Hi IH,

I am working on a few projects and finding it difficult to track everything I want to in one single spot. For example, I would like to track revenue, users, usage, etc. But to do that I have to go to all of the different sites: google analytics, webmaster tools, stripe, etc. I would like to focus on metrics that matter first ($, users, etc.) but if there is something else with other "vanity" metrics (social following, reach, etc.) that would be interesting too.

Are there any good solutions out there that you use that bring it all together? Or is there any metrics that you often look at that you wish had a solution out there?

Working on something for this very situation. Still in very early stages, but developing nicely: http://dashmetrics.io/

      Love that you're using Laravel

Mubs, this looks really cool. You are incredibly prolific building stuff. Very inspiring! Would love to see a profile on IH of your project(s).

I will definitely keep an eye on dashmetrics

Thanks! Getting more serious about a few of the projects lately, and when they are live I'd be happy to have chat with @csallen :)

Looking forward to it! In the meantime, do you want to come on the podcast and talk with me about starting projects? One of the things people struggle with the most is how to start, and obviously you're great at that. Would be fun and helpful to talk about it and see if we can give people some good advice in that area!

Hi, only for social media right ?

      1. 1

No actually, there is a "manual" option to add and track whatever metrics you want. We're have Twitter integration built as a test to pull in data automatically once per day, but will be adding many more integrations, social media, ecommerce, etc.

I don't know if their is a solution, but it's a possible business idea, that someone from IH maybe could create ;) i don't have a business but i would also prefer to have it all together in one dashboard

Interesting idea. What would you want to see in one place? I imagine there's a few services that most people use that would be the most useful.

Maybe I will start working on something... ;)

As said before do i mot have a business right now, so i'm maybe npt the best for the question. But for me it would to gather all analytics into one place, and then compare it across the services.

You could take a look at: https://www.google.com/analytics/data-studio/

The Data Studio provides connector for Google Analytics, Google Ads, SQL and other data sources.

the cheap way is Google analytics but getting really detailed is not easy. you have to setup goals and use tag manager. For the next version of my project, I am pushing everything into a postgresql database and creating views to visualize everything. For a technical person, I think this is the best bang for your time.

I don't understand. Are you looking for a tool to show all your data in only 1 dashboard ? If yes, check Geckoboard or Klipfolio

This is actually exactly what I am looking for. Any advice on which one is better?

Nope :/ You can use Segment + Alooma, the choice is large :)
Gecko board is good for beginners :)
