Ask IH:Would you want free temp work for your startup from skilled people trying to break into tech?

Hey hackers, I'm Mark Brehaut...

Over the past few months of speaking at meetup groups and demo-ing the app I'm building, I've had several people come up to me asking if they can do work pro bono so they can either get real experience after college or a bootcamp, put something new on their portfolio, or maybe in hopes of it leading to a future paid position.

From my perspective, I love doing what I can to help give them opportunities to pay it forward what was once given to me (Plus, it's free work!). Also, I know how incredibly difficult it can be to sift through companies and positions for endless hours just to find that everybody is looking for experience you don't have yet.

IDEA:
My idea is to create a simple system that connects hungry recent grads or career transitioners who are willing to work for free with cash-strapped startups that have tons of tasks to do but don't have the capital to hire new people. These tasks can be short term temp tasks like:

• Usability testing
• Research
• Quick UI designs/illustrations (i.e. simple icons)
• Landing pages
• etc.

The service would pre-screen all freelancers AND startups before letting anyone on to ensure quality and transparency on both ends. In exchange for the free work, the freelancer would receive a review of their work from the company they can add to their portfolio or LinkedIn, real world experience to add to their resume or portfolio, and possibly referrals to other companies for paid work.

QUESTIONS:

1. Does something like this exist? (couldn't find anything)
2. Would you pay a low monthly fee (~ $5-$20) to have access to free quality freelancers?
3. What are some common short term services startups may need help with aside from the ones I've listed above?
