Show IH: introducing Kommandr.com, a social command and manual page library
Hi all,
My name's Eddie Ramirez, a full-time software engineer at the office and home with long experience building full-stack applications on the web. I started working on Kommandr, a social application that enables users to discover, learn about, save, and share commands. The Kommandr MVP sees to the first two charter items. The application currently boasts a curated database with info of over 1,000 programs, 4,200 commands, and 40,000 manual pages.
This MVP lets users navigate through a community-generated collection of commands that can be executed on a number of OS's (Platforms), learn what a program does, browse related programs that perform a similar task and access their documentation with one click. Basic filtering operators are provided that lets you narrow down your search to OS or program level.
We are currently working on social features that will enable users to create their content and provide AI tools that will understand a command construct for easier and quicker explanation (no need to read long manual pages anymore). Most importantly, we are looking for ways to make the UI more intuitive and easier to understand for better UX.
Sharing this with in hopes of getting feedback that allow us improve how we deliver our value proposition. We've made several small changes to our website ever since we did a "soft release" with friends and colleagues... I think it's time for moving to the phase.
