tips for marketing a selfpublished indie book?

i listened to one of the first interviews and i know that sometimes being an author is a first step towards starting your own biz. any way, i wrote the book already but where I'm struggling is in marketing.

i created a twitter bot that tweeted out to users but while fun to write it was a limited success. 2 or 3 likes for about 300 tweets and 0 page views.

had more interest in Instagram but still haven't even gotten any page views, so suggestions are welcome.

As I own a company that focuses on helping indie authors promote themselves I can certainly offer some advice. Becoming a successful author is a very long road and there are no shortcuts.

That said there are a number of items that really move the needle:

    • Reviews are the most important part of promoting a book. It satisfies social proof and that others are enjoying your book.

    • Features. Get featured by genre specific blogs and influencers who focus on your genre.

    • Interviews. Again get interviewed by influential bloggers in your genre.

    • Instagram is a really exciting place for authors. That is where we now focus our social media attention - https://instagram.com/publishingpush

dang. yea that's what i was afraid of (the long road part which is fine since I'm having fun).

part of the problem I'm having is finding the above mentioned blogs and influencers. for example, i tried one of those sites that supposedly gives you social media metrics but it didn't really give anything useful. will try again though. incidentally, it's a picture book for kids.

yup am also on Instagram as said earlier, and just getting steady likes from other authors.

Finding the important influencers is part of the secret sauce to success with a book. I would look at how engaged their followers are. Sometimes those with a smaller buy more engaged audience will provide more valuable 😉

I've read the first and read good things about the second but not actually read it. Both are quick reads so you should be able to finish them fast and get some actionable advice.
