I took a break from finishing up my MVP to build my gfs new web store. She was on Etsy, but now her and her other silversmith friends are leaving due to the upgraded fee structure.
Her maker friends have been leaving this last year. She is a little late to the game, but we validated her new products there.
I see lots of makers I follow on Instagram complain about the changes.
It isn't just the hikes to the payments. It's all the other little nickel and diming.
Maybe Etsys foothold will change soon?
The handmakers that have gone to Amazon Handmade had horrible experiences because customers don't expect the time it takes to make items and the other things that come with handmade. They are getting 1 star reviews where they didn't on other platforms.
Yes, dual market places are hard.
Maybe a B Corp or a mission statement putting people over profits would be the trusted platform makers would flock too?Something beside the big guy that are getting it wrong. The time for CEO/ Founder activism is now as Harvard business review likes to point out.
Get started talking to makers on Instagram and pull up the TOS/ fees for Etsy or other. The target customersare out there just make sure you speak to makers doing a good amount a sales as they will see the biggest deductions.
Have fun building friends. Imma get back to adding Chargebee into my MVP for plan subscriptions today for Callmigo.
Sorry for the long rant and the ugly typing. Wrote this on a cell.
