In an open Slack community? I want your feedback!
I'm a member of an open Slack community that has a #job-board channel. Sometimes a posting has all the info I want! Full-time/part-time/contract, location, remote okay, etc. Other times, it leaves me wanting a lot more.
I'd like to create an app that makes submitting and consuming this info in Slack much easier.
Here's my entire product and monetization strategy:
- Create a Slack app where members can easily submit formatted job listings with all the typical info using a Slack dialog.
- I collect and tag these listings and allow them to be searchable on a website.
- Finally, I give recruiters, companies, contractors, etc. the opportunity to display their listings in appropriate Slack communities.
In your Slack communities are job opportunities shared? As a community member, would you lobby your Slack admins to install this app?
Are you interested in seeing all the work opportunities being talked about in these communities?
If you're a recruiter, are you using messenger bots/Slack in any way to source candidates or share listings?

"Are you interested in seeing all the work opportunities being talked about in these communities?" Absolutely! BUT, i'd want them to be highly filtered. Most job boards are clogged with recruiters and crappy jobs. You'd need to ensure quality if you want the admins to allow it.
Hey thanks Paul! Glad to hear you want to see these opportunities. You've got a great point. For external listings (those from recruiters and companies who I would charge) that I send to the communities, I could ensure quality through a manual review to start.
If I still want to enable you to see "all the work opportunities being talked about in these communities" then I'd have to review all of the submissions. This way the website isn't cluttered with low quality listings.
You helped me realize that the quality of posts created by community members could be low, so maybe I shouldn't invest in the website upfront before soliciting recruiters and companies. But, this directly conflicts with your want of seeing all of the opportunities hah! I think during step one I'll monitor the quality of submissions and take it from there.
