Did you know that .io domain means Indian Ocean territory
Fun Fact :I always thought it was input/output or Internet Organisation , now i recently came across an article which said that the the domain registrar was paying the British govt money as it really meant British Indian Ocean Territory and was originally intended for websites from that island which are rarely inhabited .

My startup transporters.io has no presence in the Indian ocean.
The true meaning is the domain was $100k cheaper than the .com!

All two-letter top-level domains are ccTLDs (cc being short for "country code"), i.e. belong to territories or countries, and use the corresponding ISO code. Some have found additional uses just like .io, for example .tv, .fm, .nu ("now" in languages like Swedish), and so on.
