Marketing Strategy for Apps

Hi,
I have a successful Android app called "Gentle Wakeup" at https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.changemystyle.gentlewakeup. I am sure that even more people would use the app if they just would know that it exists and what features it has.
But I could not find a marketing strategy yet where I get more out of it then what I invested. The money I get from one customer is just too low compared to the costs of any paid marketing activity.
Customers who click on an ad are not willing to pay money right away for the pro version and a dollar for having a single download for the free version is too much even when the lifetime value of a customer is considered.
Any ideas of an affordable marketng activity for app?

    I am facing the exact same issue (except that my app has never really been successful:) ).

    I'm coming to realize that the options for me are:

    1. Spend money on marketing, which I am almost guaranteed to never get a return on because of the low amount that I get from one costumer (as you mentioned).
    2. Spend a ton of time on marketing it myself, including content marketing and reaching out to authors, which is difficult if you have no background in sales, writing or marketing (and I simply just don't have that amount of time, especially for a trial and error process)
    3. Perhaps make some sort of revenue sharing deal with someone who is in the marketing world. (I don't think this is likely)
    4. Win the viral lottery

    I might spend a bit on a marketing service, but I am seeing it as more of a learning opportunity to know what kind of tasks I should be focusing on.

    However #3 would be the ideal solution for me (besides #4 obviously). I've been meaning to research if a platform for this exists. I'm sure there are many more in our position. Maybe we should start a support group?

      I tried #3. Some told they would love to do it but never contacted a second time.
      I think it is unusual. There is one platform for it at http://www.githustle.com/developer but noone found yet.
