Hi indie hackers :)
I recently "completed" a MVP for my sideproject mealpreplist, you can find it here: https://www.mealpreplist.com
It aims to become a collection of easy to do, everyday recipes that can be used as inspiration for mealprepping. It does not have a lot of recipes yet but the idea is to randomly choose one part of the meal for each slot and then get a nice overview of everything needed.
Since I have never really done this I could use some feedback regarding the MVP from more experienced hackers.
Currently I have added two email list popups, one in general at the end of the page for people trying it out and a special one if you click the buy button that is hidden behind the "Show Filters" button. Do you think that is too much? Is the "buy" button too hidden/hard to get to? Should I try to add a landing page that explains the concept in a few sentences?
Thank you in advance!
Hi rhazn,
I thought I would chime in since:
Your MVP looks great, so far it's very simple, which I would try to maintain, the simpler the better!
Not at all, but I would improve the design here to elaborate on what exactly premium is, some screenshots, gifs, or video on a separate page would help here.
No. I think it's just where it needs to be, but as I stated, you need some more descriptive design here. Currently you only have 1 colour on your site, I'd consider a 'highlight' colour to accentuate important things like this. As an example, look at stripe.com, you can see their clear highlight colour is green, which separates it our from their primary brand colour which is blue.
When everything on your site is green, it's hard to make things stand out. I know it's only an MVP but I think you're ready to start with a secondary colour.
There's always more than one way to go here. But if it were me, I would create a great landing page that completely (yet simply) describes your product.
Then I would require sign up, as I imagine you'll need this at some stage anyway with subscriptions and all.
You would also need to store user's data right? So you would need accounts for that as well I'd imagine.
All depends on how you want to go about it though I guess.
EDIT: Another thing I would consider in future updates would be allowing users to customise the meal plan schema, e.g. A keto dieter would probably opt for something more like Fats + Vegetables?
Also the whole Protein, Greens, Carbs kinda forces me into a way I wouldn't want to think about my foods, I don't disagree with your schema, I actually get the whole simplicity of it, but it just leaves me thinking like "what about squashes, they're low calorie, vitamin-rich, but not green, are they a carb? hmmm..."
Thanks so much for taking the time to answer!
I totally get the feedback about the color, I am using the material design thing and might have overdone it by just making everything the primary color :D. I'll try to look into adding a bit more.
I loved the idea of just immediately landing on the "main" feature instead of a landingpage but I think I will add one, especially for the initial link when releasing.
I like the idea of customising your setup to fit your diet, that will go directly on my "todo for v2" list, thanks. The initial slots are in reference to the often used mealprep containers with three openings like here: https://www.dhresource.com/0x0s/f2-albu-g5-M01-B1-D7-rBVaI1ivzZuAfBeeAAksi0kVqPs003.jpg/meal-prep-containers-microwave-food-storage.jpg . I'd put squashes in greens for that but I see how it is a bit confusing.
