Meet one unique startup person for coffee every week?
I am not sure how many of you here are from London and most importantly those of you who tried JamieApp (launched on PH: https://www.producthunt.com/posts/jamieapp-uk-only).
It was a fantastic idea, that would match up two startup founders every week for a coffee. I've attended a couple and absolutely loved it. I heard the same thing from others that went to even more meetups than me.
But for some reason, it was abandoned out of nowhere. I tried to reach out the founder multiple times, with no luck, but by the looks of it, he just moved away from London.
So I've been thinking of reviving the idea for quite a few months now, so I thought I'd ask around to possibly get more insights around this.
The idea is to have a simple website or possibly just an email list. You fill out what kind of people and from which industries you'd like to meet. You won't know who you are meeting until a week in advance, at which point you'll get an intro and will be able to accept the invitation to meet or not. I thought the idea of blind meetings was great, as otherwise, people could pass on some possibly interesting connections.
Let me know what you think about this? I'd love to hear from people who frequent blind networking meetings and especially those who used JamieApp or similar concepts, as I know there are a few in US.
I've never used JamieApp or any other similar concept and it's the first time I hear about it (I am from the US). However, I would love to try it. Here's why.
I'm a regular Meetup attendee and I think they're great in general, but I don't think they're great for getting down to those meaningful and powerful conversations. And that's okay, they're not meant for that.
In my experience, I've felt that private conversations with other startup founders (most of them Indie Hackers colleagues, actually) are way more significant for the both of us. I could definitely see myself grabbing a coffee with another startup founder as often as I go to Meetups.
I'd say give it go. I'll definitely be waiting.
P.S. what are the names of some of these concepts in the US?
Exactly Eduardo, meetups got disappointing after a while, not to mention its usually groups, which is a completely different vibe from 1 on 1 meetings you'd expect. Thanks for your feedback!

I personally like the idea as a user, but wonder if you will be able to monetize it (if that's the goal).

That's amazing, I'll definitely love to chat, as I never got a hold of JamieApp creator and would want to hear first hand from someone that did a similar idea to avoid possible pitfalls.
I have seen Serendipity on PH, didn't realise it was from a fellow indie hacker! I think I am ok not monetizing it as I'll already be getting the value from networking and making the connection. But I also think its possible to monetize it using a membership model. A small, monthly flat fee should work well, provided people will see the value after the few meetings like I did. But that's something that will need testing of course
I think this is a great idea and would love to have it in my city.
I also feel like this could be a new feature added to IndieHackers, similar to the Meetups page (https://www.indiehackers.com/meetups) but just for 1 on 1 meetup.
