Solving problems vs solving slight inconveniences

I've gone through a lot of the top app lists across various countries (appannie is a great resource), heavily browsed IH and Product Hunt. I've noticed that the depth of the problem being solved has no correlation to it's success. In fact I've noticed a lot of products are solving what I would call "slight inconveniences". I'm struggling with this since I always looked at the world as let's try to solve problems through products, but more and more I've realized the irrationality of humans leading to slight-inconvenience products making bank. What are your thoughts on this?
