Ask IH: Is the IH color scheme hurting your eyes?
I'm a huge fan of dark themes but for some reason the blue shades and white text on the community page really mess with my eyes.
There's a ton of great content here and I try to drop by as often as possible but
it feels like the eye strain is limiting how much I can read in a single go.
For me, I would rather all websites have a dark theme. I have Visual Studio set to the Dark theme. And for YouTube, there is an option to switch to dark.
Some people indeed don't like dark themes. Visual Studio used to default to a light theme, but now it asks you what theme do you prefer when it is installed.
The best option for sites is to have a color theme option setting that is specifically tailored to that site. For example, prior to using the YouTube dark theme option, I used to have third-party CSS added to the site by some CSS plugin, which didn't work perfectly.
For Wikipedia, I had written my own CSS that changes the colors (inverts to dark background and lighter font color) and even changes the layout for easier reading.
As you can see, people differ a lot on this. Some people look at my Visual Studio screen and ask, "how do you even see this?"
By the way, if I'm outside and it's very bright around me, I switch to the light theme...
Looks ok to me. (with flux) I am used to solarized color scheme.
PS: If you are spending a lot of time in front of your monitor I recommend you to just get flux. ;)
