Tools/themes to create curated directory/listing sites?

Let's say...

  • NomadList
  • Startup Stash

I'm familiar with...

  • Sheet2Site
  • Table2Site

What tools are there for making very simple pages/sites/lists that throw up simple links to resources?

To get meta, I think I have previously seen such a site curating such resources.

And I think last week I saw some new little product for teams to share links as resource collections.

What do I need to have on my list?

If you're looking for something nocode, I would recommend webflow as it also has a CMS.

Personally I haven't used it, but one project that stands out for me is Pablo Stanley's Latinxs Who design: https://www.latinxswhodesign.com/

Other than that, WordPress is awesome because of the CMS and the RestAPI (or elasticsearch sync in my case) makes it available for any front end

Webflow is an interesting shout. I still haven't tried it. Thanks very much for the Latinxs Who Design example.

Oh, that is the WordPress theme I saw a few months ago. Thanks very much!

Doesn't @graeme's Prototypr use something like that?

I use WordPress for so much; maybe over-use it.

I've got to consider whether, in the new use case I'm imagining, I want to use that, something else or maybe even learn how to tie together Airtable (which I use a lot) and some Bootstrap using React - eg. https://upmostly.com/tutorials/create-simple-web-app-react-airtable/ and https://www.indiehackers.com/forum/94563bb0a0?commentId=-LVjH4iXhExRrcLINf3t

Hey thanks for the mention @prkvs :D I do use WordPress!

I actually start in a spreadsheet, and I use a plugin to import everything from the spreadsheet to wordpress.

Then I have elasticpress (https://wordpress.org/plugins/elasticpress/) syncing everything to elasticsearch on AWS. Finally, I use a React App (started out as a create-react-app) to pull from elastic search which is super fast.

I really find the post types and taxonomies wordpress offers very useful for managing resources. Furthermore, WordPress creates a page for each resource, and a page for categories which search engines pick up on.

That's one of the main reasons I stick to WordPress, the SEO is fantastic for me.

Github works too :) you even don't need to buy your own domain name :))
