Anyone here had success with pitching a product to the media?

Lately I've been trying to pitch my product (https://ratesome.com) to various tech media, but no success thus far... And it doesn't surprise me at all because all I see they cover is either:
Products from well known companies like Google, Apple, Amazon, etc. or
products from unknown people/companies, but those that have already created some buzz.

At this point my product is not in either of the 2 categories...

So I'm really looking for some advice from those who have had success in pitching their product(s) to the media... Maybe someone knows a particular publication that specializes on covering products that are little known yet...

Thanks in advance.

As someone who has had new products featured in dozens of publications -- you may already know this -- it's all a numbers game at the end of the day.

There's a lot of links on Google if you search 'how to get press for your startup' that I won't bore you with -- they all have the same content.

Reporters get hundreds of email pitches every day. It helps to have something special, have credibility (customer/investor names), or really hit the right chord with the reporter.

Typically, national press is a lot harder than local press (which is more friendly). I'd recommend reaching out to the local (tech) publications in your area -- they're usually willing to help out a lot more and are less inundated than the national guys.

Also, a lot of media get their news scoops by staying on top of the front pages of Reddit/Hacker News/Product Hunt -- it can lead to good things if you front-page.

Yeah, it's a great point! But I'm outside of US, so it's not going to work for me... Unfortunately.
