Best marketing tips for WordPress service (or general SaaS product)?

For the past two years I've been actively trying out a bunch of different methods for marketing Kernl.us. I've tried...
- Adwords
- Twitter Ads
- Content marketing
- Promoted tweets on industry accounts
- ...and others
What are your go-to methods for acquiring new users? Specifically in the WordPress services area, but generally for any SaaS would be fine too.

Content Marketing, if done rightly, can be a very good method. I am not a big fan of ads of any form. Rather writing regular & relevant content on your own site, getting non-competing but decent traffic sites to carry your guest blog post can go a long way.
As opposed to ads, any form of content marketing is like a permanent mark on the web.
If you haven't already done so, Quora can be a very good source of marketing yourself & your services by answering relevant questions.
Having a free version on wordpress.org is doing pretty good compared to like $200 per install on paid ads
